What is HATS! ?
It's a set of completely free activities that take place during the Mill Road Winter Fair every year.
A milliner and a merry band of helpers will be in the community room of Romsey Mill to help you create hats from recycled materials from 11.00 to 15.00. All ages are welcome to try their hand but children need to be accompanied by a family member. Drop in and learn how easy it is to knock up a knock-out hat on the spot.
The competition also takes place between 11.00 and 15.00 at Romsey Mill. Photographers will snap you and your headgear and winners will be judged from the photographs on Sunday 4 December. You will be contacted directly if you are a winner, and winners will also be announced on this website. There will be prizes in the following age categories: preschool; primary; secondary; adult. All hats, those created in advance or those assembled at Romsey Mill, may enter the competition but preference will be given to hats made from recycled materials.
All hat-wearers are invited to join the fashion parade which will assemble at the Helmore Building of Anglia Ruskin University on East Road at 12.30 ready to parade along Mill Road at 13.00. You are also welcome to fall in behind the Arco Iris samba band which will leave Coleridge Road at 15.30 and proceed along the Romsey side of Mill Road to play at the car park of ASHCOOP at the bottom of Mill Road bridge. Don't be shy. If you have a hat, flaunt it.
Roving photographers will be snapping their way along Mill Road to record the inspired creations of the best-hatted shop or stall keepers.
In 2009. Soon you will be able to see the 2009 and 2010 competition winners.
